“You should actively choose to be positive, to see the world through a glass-half-full perspective. You should choose, even in difficult times, to look for the learning, the insights, the opportunities, the next steps.”
Gail Kelly in The Sydney Morning Herald
Gail Kelly began her working life as a school teacher in Rhodesia and South Africa. Deeply unhappy in that work, she changed careers in 1980, taking a position as a bank teller. In 1986 she began studying for her MBA. She came to Australia in 1997 and in 2008, she was appointed CEO of Westpac.
Gail is the first female CEO of a major Australian bank or top 15 company and, in 2005, was the highest paid woman in an Australian corporation. She is the only woman to date who has run an Australian bank.
“I have lots of scars to prove the things I have learned — the things that work and don’t work, the things I would do differently.”
